In this first episode of a series on Marklin boxes, we'll look at a general overview of Marklin boxes from the earliest wooden crates and cardboard boxed sets to the modern boxes for digital locomotives and current products.

Despite intense turmoil in the European continent which could be felt all around the world, Märklin survived the Second World War with its business relatively intact and ready for explosive growth in the post-war years. In this episode we'll look at the compromises and advancements Märklin made during this time.

The Marklin SK 800 streamlined locomotive, from its release in 1939 to its gentle decline in the late 1950s, remains a classic favorite for its streamlined design and survivability in the ever-changing product lines of the 00/HO Gauge system. The many changes in its design, however, might explain why this model number SK 800 locomotive lasted for so long.

In this episode we'll objectively examine Hermann Goring's miniature railroad and the Marklin toys that he had at his hunting lodge, Carinhall. All of this thanks to a worldwide research effort which produced many interesting photos, documents, and accounts from the 1920s - 1940s.

Innovation in 1938 and the introduction of the "Perfect Reverse" system brought many changes to the Marklin product line not to mention the 800-Series line which would last several decades. Unfortunately many of these innovations and even those that were planned but never came to light were halted due to the onset of WWII.

Learn how to almost completely dissassemble an RS 800 locomotive using nothing more than a screwdriver and a few common tools. I do not take apart the motor mount/housing or the reversing switch as sometimes these sections are hard to put back together and could cause harm to the locomotive.

Second installment of Marklin box analysis 00 Scale. We'll look at stamp patterns on the boxes and use them for dating.

In this episode we'll go through a brief survey of Marklin track in scale 00/HO from the years 1935 to 1950 and the various changes from version to version.

A printing code stamped on many Marklin boxes helps reveal the production date of the box and thus allows for accurate dating of Marklin articles. Sometimes the prices marked on the boxes and referencing pricelists also approximately dates an item because prices often changed from year to year.
